Róge Stack – Another Annette Bening Mug

“Inspired by George Kuchar’s holiday tradition, ANOTHER ANNETTE BENING MUG is a video diary filmed in 2023-2024, during the Christmas / New Year’s / awards season. Captured by iPhone video, screen recordings, and webcam, as well as voicemails and phone calls from my grandma, voice notes from my friends, and punctuated with interstitials of images and videos collected from the Internet during this time.
This is my personal cinema, time capsule, and tribute to my cat Fox, my movie-loving friends, the film community here in Portland, and the actresses I love — celebrating Xmas, New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, my 10-year sober anniversary, the 50th anniversary of a cinema goddess’s beloved classic, and a tour of Celebration from a pop icon — with Annette Bening’s Oscar campaign as its backdrop.”

Róge Stack (they/them) is a queer Oregon-born film artist and San Francisco Art Institute dropout, working behind and in front of the camera. Their works have included starring in films by underground cinema legend Mike Kuchar, directing music videos for Star Amerasu, and their own painterly, hypnotic experimental films and most passionately their personal cinema through video diaries, performance, and portraiture.
